Feb Family Saturday: It's Carnival.

We are so excited to explore the beauty of Carnival throughout the Caribbean Diaspora with families! Carnival is an act of celebration for freedom across the world where people celebrate their culture and remember all they have endured. Please join us this Saturday for an exciting afternoon of Carnival-inspired films by South Side Projections, Samba Drum lessons with Idris Daniels, Arts and Crafts with Live Arts Studio, and an exciting bilingual Arabic and English hip hop performance by Omar Offendum.

Samba Drumming with Idris Daniels

Learn popular Samba rhythms and instruments from master drummer Idris Daniels. 

Afro Caribbean Dance with Sadira Muhammad
3-4pm / Room 802
Ages 5 and up
Enjoy lively movements from the Caribbean Diaspora led by renown dance instructor Sadira Muhammad.

Arts and Crafts with Live Art Studio
2-4pm / Gidwitz Lobby
All Ages

Create arts and crafts that celebrate the beauty of Caribbean Carnival.  Arts and Crafts may include mask making and flag design for the entire family to enjoy!

Omar Offendum is a Syrian-American rapper/spoken-word artist based in Los Angeles. Known for his unique blend of Hip-Hop & Arabic poetry, he has been featured on prominent world news outlets, lectured at a number of prestigious academic institutions, and helped raise millions of dollars for various humanitarian relief groups. Offendum was recently named a Kennedy Center Citizen Artist Fellow for 2018 / 2019. Learn more >>
