Start Making @ Logan

Making art takes more than an idea — it takes the right tools, the right room, and sometimes a little funding. Here's everything we offer, organized by what you need next.

We're the creative hub for student arts activity on campus, with the equipment, space, funding, and guidance to take your work from a first idea to a finished piece on display or on stage. Making @ Logan is available to University of Chicago students, staff, faculty, and partners.

Funding

Get support to make your project happen.

  • Making @ Logan Collaboration Grants — funding for students working on an artistic project. 2026–2027 applications are open on a rolling basis from September 28 through March 13, 2027; projects should be completed by the end of the 2026–27 school year. Equipment

Find the right tools across our various labs and centers to help you need to make your work.

  • Video and photography cameras

  • Photo printers

  • Wood and metalworking tools

  • Ceramics tools and kilns

  • Music recording equipment

Space

We know that finding the right space to work can be just as critical as finding the right project. The Logan Center has a variety of space including:

  • Music practice rooms

  • Video production studio

  • Rehearsal and performance spaces

  • Edit suites and computer lab

  • Photo darkroom and arts practice commons

Exhibit & Perform

Share your in process or finished work with the community. Find ways to display artwork around the Logan Center or on campus. Sign up to collaborate on finding a location to showcase your work in the building. Spaces include:

  • Display cases around the Logan Center

  • Video and digital media screens
