Join The University of Chicago Library for Unveiling Belle Da Costa Greene: A Black Baroque Conversation with Candice Hoyes on Thursday, October 30, 5:30–8:00 PM at Regenstein Library (Room 122). Explore the life of trailblazer Belle da Costa Greene, J.P. Morgan’s personal librarian, through the lens of visiting artist, classical soprano, and archivist Candice Hoyes as she and University of Chicago Associate Professor, Dr. Noémie Ndiaye discuss Greene’s enduring impact and legacy as one of the most complex Black figures in American librarianship.

The event includes a conversation on the current and future state of Black librarianship with esteemed UChicago Library Law Librarian Ariel Alice Scotese and MLS Dominican University student and UChicago Library staff member Aaliyah Johnson, along with clips from Candice’s past performances. Guests can purchase the most recent work highlighting Greene’s life, The Personal Librarian by Marie Benedict and Victoria Christopher Murray, from an onsite bookseller, with the first 10 attendees receiving a free copy. This free event is open to all; RSVP is strongly encouraged, and refreshments will be available.

The event is part of the University of Chicago artist residency that includes: a Logan Center School Matinee performance of Belle Canto on Tuesday, October 28th and Belle Canto with Candice Hoyes Concert on Wednesday, October 29th at the Logan Center.
